Shirley Dees is the author and part-time editor of An Awkward Attempt (helpful, online grammar Nazi’s really do all of the editing by emailing and pointing out mistakes. She does appreciate this…promise.) She was born and raised in South-Central Texas and graduated from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History.
At the age of 23, Shirley moved to the Midwest. Initially planning to become a professor of history, she decided to forego graduate studies and took a job in the financial industry instead. This period of temporary insanity lasted only a couple of years before she quit her full-time job to pursue a life-long dream of writing professionally.
In the Fall of 2016, Shirley began a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing program at a lovely university in Kentucky. Her love of bourbon in no way affected her decision to attend this school. Really. If she is successful at convincing the faculty she has any idea what she’s doing, she’ll earn the degree in 2018.
Shirley resides in the Midwest with her loving Husband and yellow lab, Jake, who despite centuries of genetic breeding, refuses to retrieve. She remains, to this day, an awfully awkward human being attempting to get through life’s daily activities.
